You certainly know the dilemma on WhatsApp: A colleague writes you shortly before work, but you are not sure whether it’s about after-work beer or a last task. You can only find out if you read the message. But what if he still has a task for you and sees that you have read the message?
This is exactly where our solutions come in. There are several options to read WhatsApp messages without triggering the read receipt.
Solution 1: Deactivate reading confirmation
The easiest way is to turn off the read confirmation. To do this, you select the menu item “Privacy” in the WhatsApp settings and deactivate the item “Read confirmation”. Then you can secretly read news without problems.
The disadvantage of this solution is that you will no longer be shown a reading confirmation.
Solution 2: Use widget (only Android)
On Android phones, you can place a WhatsApp widget on the home screen. In this, all news received will be displayed. You can adjust the size of the widget as you like and read messages for a long time as usual. As long as you do not tap the widget, no read receipt will be triggered.
Solution 3: Read news as a pop-up
This solution is a bit more difficult, because it can quickly happen that you accidentally open the chat window, and that would tell you. To do this, you simply switch on the pop-up notifications in the smartphone settings.
You can then read messages via the lock screen or as a notification at the top display edge.
Solution 4: Chat Overview
With this trick, it may happen that you can’t read the full message. Long messages are not fully displayed on the chat overview of WhatsApp. To be able to read a few more letters, keep your phone close.
Solution 5: Smartwatch and Fitness Tracker
If you connect your phone with a smartwatch or a fitness tracker that has a display, you will usually also see WhatsApp messages. If you read the messages on the watch, but usually do not trigger the read confirmation. The disadvantage: the messages are not always completely readable on the clock, especially for longer texts are truncated.
Solution 6: Flight mode
For this solution, you switch on the flight mode before you open WhatsApp. So you can read all the messages quietly and secretly. The trick: Without the Internet, no read confirmation can be transmitted. However, this is of course transmitted as soon as it ends the flight mode again.
